70MHz Trophy Contest

In marked contrast to it's sibling, the 50MHz Trophy contest, this contest showed no Es at all and weather conditions which bordered on nasty.

Colin G4CWH/P sums it up'the wind was brutal and operating was like having a pet elephant tugging constantly at my left hand.'  G1HLT noted 'Lightning close before start. Very poor conditions, high noise, risk v reward in play. Strong winds took me off air for 3 hours.'

Conditions were poor and activity low.  As G3PHO notes 'Very poor and very noisy conditions plus very low activity made this one of the dullest, lack lustre contests I've ever entered!' What DX was worked was worked using digital modes.  G0EAK (G6K) reports'Dire condx and even worse activity combined with gale force winds and driving rain made this one to forget.'.  All part of the great British summer no doubt.

There were 47 entries (68 in 2022), the weather forecast understandably deterring some entrants from going out portable or from sitting under a radio aerial in a thunderstorm.

For most entrants activity died out quite quickly and only a few QSO's were made in the last couple of hours.  Postcode mults did, at least, make for some incentive to continue operating.

Overall contest ODX was achieved when G4ASR worked OZ8ZS at a distance of 1034km.

Forwarding logs to Region 1 : As with the 50MHz Trophy where entrants requested this logs have been forwarded to Region 1 for entry in the R1 contest.
